Wen's visit has met desired targets: China

China on Wednesday said that Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India has met the desired goal of "promoting trust and widening cooperation" between the two countries.

The Sino-Indian agreement for an early settlement of the border issue will help find a 'fair and reasonable' solution to the problem, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said.

"Being the first official document on the border issue in more than 20 years, the agreement has laid a foundation for peaceful negotiations," Li, who accompanied the Chinese premier on his four-day visit, was quoted as saying by the Xinhua news agency.

The agreement covered confidence-building measures along the Line of Actual Control and the nearly 3,400-km ceasefire line.

Wen's tour was important for China with regards to its foregn affairs on South Asia, Li said. Wen also visited Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
