The Pakistan high commission in Delhi turned down militant-turned-separatist leader Javed Ahmed Mir's request to meet President Pervez Musharraf on Sunday.

Mir, who entered Pakistan House with other separatist leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, was stopped at the reception by the guards.

While other separatist leaders, including All-Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and Abdul Ghani Bhat walked in for their scheduled meeting with Musharraf, Mir was asked to wait, Pakistan high commission sources said.

The former deputy commander of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front militant outfit sent in his visiting card and was told within minutes that he could not attend the meeting as it had already begun, they added.

Once close to Pakistani establishment for spearheading militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Mir had to beat a hasty retreat and was out of the meeting venue within minutes.

Mir claimed he had submitted a letter to Musharraf.
