The ongoing investigations in the Pradeep Jain murder case, for which extradited gangster Abu Salem is currently in custody of the Anti Terrorist Squad of the Mumbai police, is taking a curious turn with ATS sources Wednesday stating that Salem may have executed the murder at the behest of some one else.

"There is a possibility that Salem may have been asked to eliminate Jain by a bigger boss," ATS sources said, hinting that some prominent member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang could also be involved in the murder that took place in 1995.

Pradeep Jain, a real estate developer, was shot dead by armed assailants, allegedly on the orders of Salem, after the builder did not heed to Salem's demand that he give up claim of a prime piece of land at suburban Andheri.

Salem and two more persons are yet to be tried in the murder case as they were absconding.

ATS sources said that the probe into Salem's role in the Jain murder case has revealed the role of some more persons, who may be called for interrogation.

However, the sources refused to name these persons since it would alert these persons "who could still be in Mumbai", ATS sources said.

Although Salem has been in the custody of the ATS since November 23, ATS sources said it has not been possible for the squad to interrogate him properly due to the legal hurdles being faced in the probe.
