Delhi government would soon start a special training programme for the staff of state-run Delhi Transport Corporation to sensitise them on detection of explosives and suspicious passengers.

Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf told PTI on Thursday that the programme entails educating drivers and conductors regarding the precautionary measures that need to be take to prevent bomb explosions on buses.

Delhi police will be involved in this programme, he said, adding that around 30,000 drivers and conductors would be trained in this programme. The transport department had earlier conducted such a programme nearly two years back, when there was a blast incident in a DTC bus near Delhi Indian Institute of Technology.

However, this time, the training would be more rigorous, an official said. "Last time, the training was limited to few instructions on safety measures. But this time, some mock drills may be conducted to ensure that the staff remains alert," he said.
