India is sending a second consignment of relief supplies to Pakistan for victims of the recent killer earthquake, it was officially announced Thursday.

The supplies total 82 tons, which includes 5,000 blankets, 370 tents, five tons of plastic sheets and 12 tons of medicines, and are being sent by a train from Delhi Thursday night through the Atari-Wagah route, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.

The first consignment of 25 tonnes of relief supplies had reached Islamabad early Wednesday by an Il-76 flgiht, the first Indian cargo relief aircraft to land in Pakistan since the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict.

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had, in a televised address to the nation Wednesday night, deeply appreciated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's gesture of calling him to express grief over the massive earthquake that struck Pakistan and thanked him for despatching aid.

Dr Singh "was very kind to ring me up and offer all possible assistance," he had said adding, "we express our gratitude to him and we have accepted Indian aid in certain form."
