Congress president Sonia Gandhi will arrive in Rae Bareilly on Tuesday for the first time after her resignation from the Lok Sabha seat and is expected to outline the party's future course of action in the backdrop of the office of profit controversy.

Sonia's visit has come at a time when there are apprehensions that the ruling party could be toying with the idea of snap Lok Sabha elections. With Uttar Pradesh Congressmen leaving no stone unturned to make her visit a grand affair, Sonia will be addressing a public meeting at the government Inter-college ground.

She would also be holding a mass contact gathering in the constituency from where she has already declared to seek re-election. She shifted to the Rae Bareilly constituency in the last Lok Sabha elections from adjacent Amethi from where her son Rahul contested.

Rae Bareilly and Amethi are considered pocket boroughs of the Gandhi family, having been represented earlier by the late Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. The Congress chief is also expected to make critical remarks about the Mulayam Singh Yadav government as her party and the ruling Samajwadi Party are at loggerheads for the past over two years on several issues.

Meanwhile in Delhi, party spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan made a sharp attack on the UP government over the Meher Bhargava issue stating that her death was yet another testimony of the complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
