India is understood to have sought Brazil's help in taking up New Delhi's case in the Nuclear Suppliers' Group for relaxing guidelines to India's civil nuclear programme.

The issue is understood to have come up during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's discussions with Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the current chairman of the 45-member NSG, in Brasilia on Tuesday.

In the wake of India concluding a civil nuclear deal with the United States, there is the requirement of the NSG relaxing guidelines for India to help New Delhi in global nuclear commerce.

Earlier in the day, FinlandĀ said it was still undecided on supporting the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. Finnish Ambassador to India Asko Numminen told media persons that his country was studying the deal but underlined that it had traditionally been a supporter of multilateral non-proliferation system.
