In the wake of the protests by Tibetans, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan on Tuesday met Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal and discussed the security arrangements made for the April 17 Olympic torch relay.

Yan drove to the police headquarters today afternoon and discussed with Dadwal the arrangements made by the police, with respect to the arrangements made for the event, sources said.

The meeting lasted for approximately 30 minutes and the Commissioner is understood to have briefed the Chinese envoy about the security arrangements for the event, they said.

Dadwal is reported to have assured the top diplomat that adequate security will be provided at the Chinese embassy in Chanakyapuri to thwart any attempts by Tibetans to storm it.

A large number of Tibetans are camping in Delhi, ahead of the Olympic torch relay, and are protesting against the atrocities committed by Chinese forces in their homeland.

Twenty-seven Tibetans on Tuesday managed to take out their own torch rally this afternoon on the route of the Olympic torch relay, taking security personnel by surprise.
