Furore over shifting mega cityOpposition members in the Maharashtra legislative council, led by the Congress's Chhagan Bhujbal, yesterday staged a walkout in protest against the shifting of the proposed mega city from Pune to an area near the Bombay-Pune expressway. The members had charged that the Pimpri-Chinchwad site was rejected due to 'extraneous considerations'. Replying to Independent member Sanjivani Raikar and others, Public Works Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Pimpri-Chinchwad site was found unsuitable. The mega city was now being set up on the Bombay-Pune expressway and the process for acquiring land for the same had already been initiated, he said. The minister pointed out that another mega city would come up at Khalapur in Raigad district. UNI |
