Gawli remanded to judicial custody
Gangster Arun Gawli was remanded on Wednesday to judicial custody till Thursday.
He was arrested along with two of his accomplices by the Agripada
police on Tuesday in connection with the assault on Asian Age journalist
Anindita Ramaswamy.
Metropolitan Magistrate G Agarwal also remanded two others, Raju Phillip and Suresh Bhaskar, to judicial custody till Thursday.
The court has allowed Gawli to eat food cooked at his home and also inquired about the police treatment to him in custody. Gawli complained to the court that he received an injury to his right hand when he was being taken away from his home at Dagdi chawl by the Agripada police on Tuesday.
Earlier, Gawli and his accomplices were brought to the court under tight security. There were many policemen around the court, following the Maharashtra bandh call given by Gawli's Akhil Bharatiya Sena protesting against their leader's arrest.
Meanwhile, his wife Asha Gawli, said he should be treated properly by the police since he was a politician. She claimed the police had made a false complaint against her husband and that they wanted to destroy his political career. She said the police should have asked him to accompany them; instead, they had dragged him away.
Meanwhile, the areas surrounding Dagdi chawl, where Gawli lives, observed a total bandh. Other areas remained unaffected.
