All illegal Bombay structures to be razed in 3 months

Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi says that 5,197 of the 35,000 illegal structures in Bombay have been pulled down.

Addressing the media after presiding over the co-ordination committee meeting of the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Joshi said the remaining illegal structures would be demolished in the next two or three months. He said the slums, which have come up after January 1, 1995, would be razed.

The chief minister said that all group leaders in the corporation have assured full support to the demolition drive. He said the administration was not against slum-dwellers. ''If legal structures are pulled down accidentally, the government will take the responsibility of rehabilitating the dwellers,'' he added.
