India's pace spearhead Zaheer Khan [ Images ] is likely to miss the tri-series in Sri Lanka [ Images ] and the Champions Trophy [ Images ] in South Africa [ Images ] as he has undergone a major surgery on his left shoulder in Johannesburg, sources said on Thursday.
Zaheer, who suffered the injury while playing for Mumbai Indians [ Images ] in the IPL-II in South Africa earlier this year, has just 10 days to prove his fitness as the BCCI will name the Champions Trophy team on August 16.
The tri-series in Sri Lanka involving India and New Zealand [ Images ] will be played from September 8 to 14 while the Champions Trophy will be staged from September 22 to October 5.
Zaheer, who featured in India's brief Twenty20 [ Images ] World Cup campaign in England [ Images ] before missing the four-match ODI series in the West Indies [ Images ], has been undergoing a month-long rehabilitation in South Africa.
