India's pace spearhead Zaheer Khan is likely to miss the tri-series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy in South Africa as he has undergone a major surgery on his left shoulder in Johannesburg, sources said on Thursday.
Zaheer, who suffered the injury while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL-II in South Africa earlier this year, has just 10 days to prove his fitness as the BCCI will name the Champions Trophy team on August 16.
The tri-series in Sri Lanka involving India and New Zealand will be played from September 8 to 14 while the Champions Trophy will be staged from September 22 to October 5.
Zaheer, who featured in India's brief Twenty20 World Cup campaign in England before missing the four-match ODI series in the West Indies, has been undergoing a month-long rehabilitation in South Africa.
