Former Test captain Javed Miandad has been appointed as batting consultant to prepare Pakistan for next month's ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Thursday.
Pakistan's batting repeatedly collapsed on the recent tour of Sri Lanka, where they lost the Test and one-day series, prompting the PCB to call on former national coach Miandad.
"Recent results in Sri Lanka suggest that we need a professional batting coach with the team so we asked Miandad to help us out and he has agreed," PCB chairman Ejaz Butt told a news conference on Thursday.
Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam hailed the move saying Miandad's appointment would greatly benefit the young batsmen in the team.
"Given Miandad's experience he will be very useful to the team specially the younger players," Alam said.
Pakistan Shahid Afridi said the former Pakistan captain has a lot to offer and this move would help the batsmen improve their showing at the ICC Champions Trophy next month.
"It is a decision of the board. Miandad is a great player and we can learn a lot from him. His induction should be beneficial to the team."
