VVS Laxman could not repeat the first-innings heroics but his brief 23-run knock was crucial nonetheless as his team Lancashire escaped to a draw against Durham in a three-day match of the County Championships at Old Trafford.
Laxman, who starred with an 87-run knock in the first innings, came in when Lancashire were reeling at three wickets for four runs.
Mark Chilton, who saved the day for Lancashire with a fighting unbeaten 79, combined with Laxman to see off Durham pace threat with a 52-run partnership.
The match ended in a draw as Lancashire ended at 163 for four in their second innings, chasing an improbable 326 for win.
Laxman, who hit four boundaries in his 74-ball innings, was out after lunch, edging a Graham Onions delivery to the wicketkeeper.
In another County Championship match, Indian pacer S Sreesanth did not get a chance to bat as his team Warwickshire drew with Nottinghamshire.
