Injury-plagued Andrew Flintoff might have quit Test cricket to prolong his ODI career but the allrounder feels his teammate Steve Harmison, whose future also has been the subject of speculation, has enough fire in his belly to carry on playing for England.

steve harmisonFlintoff urged Harmison to continue playing because he feels the tall right-arm pacer has the opportunity to end his career as one of the greats of England.

"If I was Steve Harmison and could bowl like that I'd keep going. You talk to any opposition in the world about who they don't want to face, and it's Steve Harmison," Flintoff was quoted as saying in the Guardian.

"He could end up being one of the greats for England. I would urge him to carry on because he's just so good, isn't he? It's his decision, but I just think there's a lot more to come from him," he said.

Harmission was overlooked by England until the fourth Test and the 30-year-old finally got into the act, wrapping up Australia's tail in the second innings on Sunday to take his Test tally to 226 wickets from 63 matches.

Just after his 3-54 spell in the Ashes decider, Harmison indicated that he will continue playing for England if selected in the South Africa-bound squad in November.

"I'll sit down with Andrew Strauss and Andrew Flower and if they want me to go to South Africa, I'll go," he said.

"If they are saying 'We're going to take this in another direction', then I'll gladly step aside."
