Andhra Cricket Association secretary Chamundeshwarnath sacked

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) on Thursday formally sacked its secretary, V Chamundeshwarnath, who had earlier been relieved from the post following allegations of corruption and misbehaviour with women players.

The General Body of the association, which met in Vijayawada on Thursday, unanimously took the decision to sack Chamundeshwarnath, ACA president G Gangaraju said, adding he was given an opportunity to explain his position.

"The association was not satisfied with the explanation offered by him (Chamundeshwarnath) and asked him to appear in person but he did not do so," Gangaraju said.

"He was also given a seven-day notice before expelling him," he added.

Asked who will discharge the functions of Chamundeshwarnath after his sacking, Gangaraju said the ACA general body had authorised him to take over as acting secretary.

Chamundeshwarnath, who was the manager of Indian team during the Twenty20 World Cup in England, was accused of corruption in the purchase of chairs for a Twenty20 match that was planned to be organised in Visakhapatnam.

The high-profile cricket administrator got into further trouble when a group of women players complained against him of alleged misbehaviour to the state Home Minister P Sabita Reddy.

The Andhra Pradesh government later appointed a senior police official to probe the allegations and the case is still under the Vijayawada police investigation.
