Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn claimed his career-best figures of 5-155 to help the West Indies secure a first-innings lead after bowling Australia out for 439 on Day 3 of the second Test in Adelaide on Sunday.
At stumps, West Indies were 35 runs ahead at 23-0.
Australia resumed Day 3 on 174-0 but Shane Watson missed his maiden Test century after being bowled by Benn off the second ball of the day, without adding to his overnight score of 96. Benn continued his assault and later picked Simon Katich for 80.
West Indies pacer Kemar Roah made the other key blows picking Ricky Ponting (36) and then Mike Hussey for 41.
Benn struck again, after tea, to claim Marcus North and Michael Clarke (71) an further dent the Australians.
Mitchell Johnson was soon to follow and Roach picked another wicket in Nathan Hauritz. Aussie keeper Brad Haddin tried to boost the innings with a solid 50, but he ran out of partners.
He first lost Peter Siddle, who was Benn's fifth wicket, and then No 11 bat Doug Bollinger was run out trying to allow Haddin to retain the strike and Australia conceded a first-innings lead of 12.
Windies openers Chris Gayle and Adrian Barath looked good at the crease and hit two fours apiece in the four overs before the close of play.
