Injured Kallis turns to oxygen chamber for fast recovery

December 11, 2009 18:00 IST

Jacques KallisInjured South African all rounder Jacques Kallis has turned to an oxygen chamber in a bid to recover in time for the first Test against England at Centurion next week.

Kallis is doubtful for the match after suffering a fractured rib that ruled him out of the entire ODI series, and in his quest to make a comeback, he has resorted to spending long hours in an oxygen tent to speed up his recovery, The Mirror reported.

Meanwhile, talking about possibilities of Kallis playing in the Test, South African coach Mickey Arthur said: "We certainly haven't ruled him out of bowling during the series and we are still working hard with him ahead of the First Test."

It was the same technique used in England's failed bid to get fast bowler Simon Jones fit for the final Ashes Test of 2005.

Kallis' injury was first felt in the Twenty20 Champions League in India, but he tried to play through the injury before being finally ruled on the eve of the One-day series against England.

Although South Africa have not officially given up hope of his inclusion in the first Test starting in a fortnight, but they will take no risk whatever on his fitness, they are clearly desperate that he plays in the rest of the series.
