Team India looks tired: Vengsarkar

Last updated on: December 25, 2009 00:10 IST

Former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar on Thursday questioned the current selection policy of Indian cricket team and said that the side looks tired as almost the same players are featuring in every game.

"The entire team looks tired. This is mainly because the same XI out of the 15-man squad is repeatedly playing every game. So, with so many matches around, they are bound to get tired which in turn, may affect their fitness," the former selector said.

Vengsarkar, who was watching the fourth ODI between India and Sri Lanka, also said the current selection committee, headed by Krishnamachari Srikkanth, needs to have a proper vision.

Vengsarkar also said pacer Sudeep Tyagi should get a look-in when Ishant Sharma is not having a good time.

"What's the use if you don't try these players out? I'm not asking to change the winning combination. But is these reserves' job only to travel?

"Unless and until you try them out, how would you know whether the likes of Tyagi and (Pragyan) Ojha are good enough?

"The important thing is induction of players at the right time. It is here that the current lot of selectors needs to have a vision," Vengsarkar added.
