Pietersen doubtful for third Test

England skipper Andrew Strauss said they were not sure of Kevin Pietersen's participation in the next week's third Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

Pietersen's Achilles tendon strain forced him to stay out of field in most part of the Lord's Test, which England won to take a 1-0 lead.

"He's obviously hurting. We'll have to see how he goes after a few days' rest and recuperation. He'll put his feet up in front of the telly for a few days and well have to play it by ear," Strauss said.

The hosts captain said they want to pick only those players who can last full five days.

"The important thing for us is that the 11 we choose for the third Test at Edgbaston, we have to be very certain they get through the game. That's what the medical staff will have to guide us on," Strauss was quoted as saying by Herald Sun.

Meanwhile, England's star all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who announced his retirement from Test cricket after the Ashes series, has expressed hope to figure in all the remaining games.

"My aim in this series was to get on the field. The pleasing thing was I bowled all my overs. I may be in a bit of discomfort but I've spent most of my career in discomfort. That's nothing new.

"We've got three more Test matches. I want to play a major part in them and a major part in the team's success. I'm confident. I'll do anything to get through these next three Tests," Flintoff said.
