Kolkata Knight Riders sacked head coach John Buchanan after their disastrous performance during the second edition of the IPL, where the team finished at the bottom of the table.

Buchanan's multi-captaincy theory created a major controversy after former India captain Sunil Gavaskar openly criticised Buchanan for his idea. Though the theory didn't come into practice, Brendon McCullum was elevated to the captain's role who failed to inspire his team.

Bollywood superstar and owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders Shah Rukh Khan then lashed out at Gavaskar for criticising his team's coach.

Reacting to Buchanan's theory of multiple captains for KKR, Gavaskar in his column for a leading English daily, had termed Buchanan a "failed former cricketer making a living telling international players to do what he couldn't do".

Buchanan was again in trouble following his decision to send back several local players from the Kolkata squad even though the overseas players showed poor performance.
