Ryder in drunken brawl, claims report

May 12, 2009 10:07 IST

Temperamental New Zealand player Jesse Ryder finds himself in the news again with reports claiming that the burly Kiwi batsman was involved in a drunken incident and had to be restrained by the security guards during the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Media reports in New Zealand claimed that Ryder, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, was under the influence of alcohol and had to be stopped by the security personnel.

The reports prompted Ryder's mentor Murray Deaker to issue a statement in which he admitted Ryder was involved in an alcohol-related incident but denied the player being restrained by the security guards.

"Jesse's had over a hundred days of sobriety and has made enormous progress during that time, on and off the field. Now for that to continue he needs support and moves have already been made to assist him to get back on top," Deaker was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.

Ryder has been struggling with alcohol problems for quite a while and on one occasion he had smashed a glass window in a Christchurch bar while drunk.
