Former England cricketer Chris Lewis was jailed for 13 years on Wednesday for trying to smuggle drugs into Britain in his kit bag.

The 41-year-old former all-rounder had attempted to bring in cocaine with a street value of more than 140,000 pounds ($216,700) after a holiday in St Lucia but was stopped by customs officers at London's Gatwick Airport, the Press Association said.

The drugs had been hidden in liquid form in tins of fruit and vegetable juice stashed in his kit bag, Croydon Crown Court heard.

His accomplice Chad Kirnon, 27, was also sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Both had denied the charges.
