Muzumdar becomes highest run-getter in Ranji

November 06, 2009 19:52 IST

A consistent performer in domestic circuit who could never make the cut for the Indian team, Amol Muzumdar on Friday, became the highest run-getter in the Ranji Trophy in a Plate Division match in Guwahati.

The veteran Mumbaikar, playing for Assam this year, achieved the milestone after scoring 25 runs against Rajasthan in a Plate Division match, which took his overall runs' tally to 7,640, which is 27 more than previous record-holder Amarjeet Kaypee.

The 34-year-old right-hander, who needed 31 runs to achieve the feat before the match, had scored 22 in the first innings.

Muzumdar started his Ranji career in 1993-94 but never made it to the national squad.
