I want to be back in a couple of weeks: Henriques

November 07, 2009 17:15 IST

Moises Henriques's honeymoon in international cricket lasted only two matches but the young all-rounder said he is determined to be back on the field within a week or two to claim a spot in the Australian team for the summer series against West Indies and Pakistan.

One of the stars of New South Wales's victorious Champions League campaign, Henriques, himself was a replacement for injured James Hopes in the ongoing seven-match ODI series against India.

But the 22-year-old all-rounder, who made his debut in the third One-dayer in Delhi, sustained a hamstring injury during the fourth game in Mohali, which forced him to return home after being ruled out for the remainder of the series.

"As a kid, I said all I wanted was to play one game for Australia, but when you get that one game, you just want more and more," said Henriques, who returned home on Friday to consult a physiotherapist to repair his right hamstring.

"I am still learning my craft. Playing for your country isn't easy, maybe this is what I needed to show me how professional you need to be to ensure you're able to take the field every time.

"I want to be back in a week or two," he was quoted as saying in the Sydney Morning Herald.
