Off-spinner Sarandeep Singh was on Wednesday called for chucking on day two of the Super League Group A Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Himachal Pradesh at the Bandra-Kurla Complex ground.

The call was given by leg umpire Sanjeev Rao in the 24th over of Mumbai's second innings. Sarandeep, who was in his third over then was taken off the attack by skipper Ashok Thakur at the end of the over.

"He's shattered. Sarandeep was not called in the first innings and he's watching the videos to see how different his action was in the second innings," Himachal coach Rajdeep Kalsi said after the match.

Sarandeep, who has represented India in three Tests and five ODIs, was summoned by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for suspect action before the season. "His hand bend was far less than the 15 degrees allowed, Kalsi said.

"The call will definitely affect him mentally. This is also a big setback for us as he has been single-handedly leading our spin attack," he added.

Meanwhile, Mumbai skipper Wasim Jaffer said BCCI's diktat to on-field umpires to call bowlers with suspect actions immediately on the field should not be applied to people who got past it.

"It's a good initiative for somebody who is growing up. But for someone who has played and got away with that for years, I don't know how good it is," he said.
