Following India's disappointing performance at the ICC Champions Trophy, veteran batsman Rahul Dravid was dropped from the 15-member squad for the first two one-dayers against Australia.
Virender Sehwag makes a comeback after recovering from injury and will replace Dinesh Karthik.
Yuvraj Singh, who had to pull out of the Champions Trophy following an injury, was cleared for selection, but his inclusion in the squad for the first one-dayer in Baroda on October 25 is subject to him passing a fitness test.
"The selectors were advised that Yuvraj Singh would definitely be fit to play on 28th October 2009. It is possible that he may be able to play the first match as well. The decision on the playing eleven for the first match will be made based on Yuvraj Singh's fitness on 25th October 2009," Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.
R P Singh, Abhishek Nayar and Yusuf Pathan were also dropped, making way for uncapped UP pacer Sudeep Tyagi, Munaf Patel and Ravindra Jadeja.
India failed to make the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy after losing to Pakistan and it was hardly surprising to see the selectors ring in quite a few changes.
However, Dravid's exclusion from the squad was not surprising. With both Sehwag and Yuvraj back in the side it meant there was no place for the veteran in the middle order.
In the absence of Zaheer Khan, the Indian fast bowling department struggled in the last two tournaments and the selectors were forced to take much-needed remedial measures.
Thus, the out-of-form R P Singh, who struggled to find his rhythm both for India and for Deccan Chargers in the Champions League, was promptly replaced by fellow-UP pacer Tyagi.
The 22-year-old Tyagi impressed the selectors with a match-winning spell (3-20) for India Red in the Challenger Trophy final against the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India Blue team.
Munaf Patel also impressed during the Challenger Trophy and Irani Trophy and was called up in place of Abhishek Nayar to provide cover for the struggling Ishant Sharma, who was lucky to retain his place in the squad.
Yusuf Pathan failed to stamp his mark as an all-rounder and was replaced by young Ravindra Jadeja, who has played three ODIs for India.
The first two matches of the seven-match series will be played in Baroda (October 25) and Nagpur (October 28).
