Some key facts on the first one-day international between India and Australia which ended in a four-run defeat for the home side.

# Tim Payne has now scored two fifties in his two appearances against India. He had also made 56 in his only other appearance against India in ICC Champions Trophy at Centurion.

# Ricky Ponting, during his innings of 74, became the leading run-scorer in 2009, surpassing Zimbabwe's Hamilton Masakadza's aggregate of 936 runs.

# The two sixes in this match took Ponting's tally of sixes against India to 29 – most by an Australian batsman. Before this match, Ponting was at level with Andrew Symonds with 27 sixes.

# The 76-run partnership between White and Hussey is the best for the fourth wicket at this ground. The previous best was 75 (unbroken) between Tendulkar and Dhoni against West Indies in 2007

# Four Australian batsmen (Paine, Ponting, White and Hussey) made fifties in Australian innings. This is the first instance when India conceded four fifties in a match.

# India conceded 54 runs in last 5 overs and 79 runs in last 10.

# India's highest successful chase against Australia has been 275 (for four) at Sharjah in 1998 (Sachin Tendulkar made 134 in that game). India's highest against Australia batting second still remains 299 for 7 at Nagpur in 2007 (India lost that match by 18 runs).

# Brett Lee, with Sehwag's wicket completed his 50 wickets against India. He became first bowler to reach this landmark in India-Australia contests.

# The 84-run partnership (off 57 balls) between Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar is India's best for the eighth wicket against Australia. The pair obliterated the unbroken 82 run-partnership between Kapil Dev and Kiran More against New Zealand at Bangalore in 1987 World Cup.

# Incidentally India's previous highest eighth wicket partnership against Australia was a paltry 42 between MS Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh at Brisbane in 2008.

# Both Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar made their highest scores in ODIs.

# India scored 58 runs in last 5 overs and 87 in last 10.

# The 4-run defeat is India's third narrowest against Australia. They had suffered one-run defeat on two occasions.

# The defeat was India's 100th at home soil.
