Opener Wasim Jaffer [ Images ] has been appointed as captain of the Mumbai [ Images ] Ranji Trophy team for the 2009-2010 season and would lead the 38-time national champions in their season-opening Irani Cup clash against Rest of India [ Images ] at Nagpur from October 1-5.

Wiry pacer Ajit Agarkar [ Images ] would be Jaffer's deputy in the match, a media release from the Mumbai Cricket Association's joint secretary and senior selection committee convenor Hemant Waingankar said on Saturday.

The team includes uncapped 17-year-old left arm medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar.
