Pakistan has ability to defend T20 WC title: Butt

April 10, 2010 16:37 IST

Pakistan opener Salman Butt has said that his side has the ability to defend their Twenty20 World Cup title starting on April 30 in the West Indies.

Butt said the Pakistani squad has the potential to upset even the best teams in the world, but added that each player would have to give his best to help the team lift the coveted trophy for the second consecutive time.

"We will go all out to retain the title and put our best for it. When I look at the Pakistan team, especially in this shortest format, I think anyone who plays to his full potential has the ability to single-handedly win the game for us on any given day," The Dawn quoted Butt, as saying.

The left-handed batsman pointed out that Pakistan shares a tough group with Australia, and every player would need to give more than 100 per cent on the field.

"It's going to be a tough tournament. We're in a difficult and tricky group with Australia, which is a very good side. In the shortest format, it's hard to say who will do well as it is all about who plays well on the day," Butt said.
