India suffer biggest defeat to New Zealand

The statistical highlights of the first match of the tri-nation ODI series between India and New Zealand in Dambulla, on Tuesday.

# New Zealand (288) recorded their highest total against India in Sri Lanka and their fifth best against India overall.

# New Zealand posted their highest total in Sri Lanka, eclipsing the 264 for seven against India at Colombo (SSC) on August 2, 2001.

# Ross Taylor (95 off 113 balls) posted his first half-century against India, surpassing the 31 at Napier on March 3, 2009.

# Taylor's batting average as captain is 82.50 -- 165 in two innings -- 70 off 71 balls against Australia at Napier on March 3, 2010 and 95 against India at Dambulla on August 10, 2010.

# Taylor registered his first fifty in Sri Lanka -- his 16th in ODIs.

# Taylor and Styris were involved in a stand of 190 for the fourth wicket -- the highest at Dambulla, surpassing the 121 between Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene for Sri Lanka against Australia on February 20, 2004.

# The aforesaid partnership is New Zealand's best for the fourth wicket against India, obliterating the 152 between Martin Crowe and Ken Rutherford at Dunedin on March 1, 1990.

# India recorded their biggest defeat to New Zealand in terms of runs, surpassing the 108-run loss at Dunedin on March 1, 1990.

# India's 200-run defeat is their fourth largest in terms of runs. India lost to Sri Lanka by 245 runs at Sharjah on October 29, 2000, by 208 runs to Australia at Sydney on February 8, 2004 and by 202 runs to England at Lord's on June 7, 1975.

# India recorded their lowest total (88) against New Zealand, obliterating their 108, registered twice -- at Christchurch on January 1, 2003 and at Auckland on December 26, 2002.

# India's 88 is their fifth lowest total in One-Day Internationals -- their lowest is 54 against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on October 29, 2000.

# Scott Styris became the seventh player to amass 4000 runs for New Zealand in ODIs, aggregating 4031 runs at an average of 33.04 in 166 ODIs, including four hundreds and 25 fifties.

# Styris' beautiful innings of 89 off 95 balls is his highest against India, eclipsing the 68 at Cuttack on November 6, 2003.

# Styris, during the course of his aforesaid knock, has become the third New Zealand all-rounder to complete the double of 4,000 runs and 100 wickets. Chris Cairns (4950 runs + 201 wickets in 215 ODIs) and Chris Harris (4379 runs + 203 wickets in 250 ODIs) have already accomplished the double of 4,000 runs and 100 wickets. Styris has already bagged 125 wickets (ave. 34.95) in 166 ODIs.

# Praveen Kumar's figures of 3 for 43 are his best against New Zealand, surpassing the 2 for 28 at Napier on March 3, 2009.

# Kumar also completed 50 wickets in 41 matches at an average of 32.62.

# Ashish Nehra's excellent figures of 4 for 47 are his best against New Zealand, obliterating the 3 for 24 at Colombo (RPS) on September 11, 2009.

# Taylor got the Man of the Match award for the sixth time -- his first against India.
