Stats: Broad-Trott's world record partnership

Last updated on: August 28, 2010 18:34 IST

Mohammad Aamer was in red hot form as he took six wickets to give Pakistan control but Stuart Broad and Jonathan Trott turned the match around completely with a world record partnership.

England were precariously placed at 102 for seven on the opening day of the fourth and final Test at Lord's, when Broad joined Trott on Friday.

What followed was one of the biggest recovery in Test history!

The eighth wicket partnership lasted for 95.4 overs in which these two batsmen added 332 runs, constituting the highest eighth wicket partnership in Test cricket. Ironically, the previous eighth wicket record partnership was set by Pakistan pair of Wasim Akram and Saqlain Mushtaq against Zimbabwe at Shekhupura in 1996-97.

Broad's innings of 169 is the second highest by a number 9 batsman in Test cricket after Ian Smith's 173 against India in 1989-90.
