John Howard interviewed for ICC VP's post

Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard appeared for an interview for ICC vice-president's job which will be left vacant after India's Sharad Pawar takes charge as chief of the cricket governing body in June, according to a report.

Howard appeared before a seven-member committee after Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket failed to nominate a single candidate for the post, which will be vacant when Pawar takes over from David Morgan as ICC chief.

The meeting between officials of CA and NZC was held in New Zealand on Thursday, according to Daily Telegraph.

"A seven-member committee - three from Australia, three from New Zealand and an Australian "independent" member, Roderick Eddington - interviewed both Howard and former New Zealand Cricket chairman John Anderson for the role," a report in the newspaper said.

"But the committee could not reach a conclusion and may take two more weeks to decide who the successful candidate will be," the report added.

Under the rotation policy of the ICC, it's the turn of either Australia or New Zealand to nominate Pawar's successor as vice-president first and president in 2012.
