Follow, discuss the India-South Africa first Test in Nagpur

February 07, 2010 09:40 IST

Jacques Kallis registered his third hundred in five Tests and shared a double century stand with Hashim Alma to put South Africa in command of the first Test against India in Nagpur on Saturday.

His magnificent, unbeaten 159 and an unbroken 285 for the third wicket with Amla, who scored 115, saw the tourists amass 291 for 2 after winning the toss.

Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan had put India high in the saddle early on, after dismissing openers Ashwell Prince for nought and skipper Graeme Smith for six in successive overs to reduce the tourists to six for two, but thereafter the home team toiled.

Can Kallis and Amla carry on the fine showing on Day 2? India need a couple of early wickets to restrict the South African total.
