Sreesanth, Raina in squad for Kolkata Test

Soon after India had suffered a humiliating innings and six runs defeat in the opening Test at Nagpur on Tuesday, the selection panel made changes in the squad for the second Test at Kolkata that weren't too convincing.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee decided to include Dinesh Karthik, S Sreesanth and Suresh Raina in the squad at the expense of Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Mithun and Sudeep Tyagi.

Saha's exclusion was acceptable as he had failed to impress with the bat and was never supposed to feature only as a wicketkeeper.

But the omission of Abhimanyu Mithun and Sudeep Tyagi was a tad surprising considering they weren't even in the playing eleven for the Nagpur Test.

Also the return of Karthik, who was inexplicably dropped after the tour to Bangladesh was expected, considering his recent good show in the Duleep Trophy final for South Zone, where he scored hundred in each innings.

But the selection of Raina and Sreesanth fails to convince, especially because they have come at the expense of players who weren't even given a chance to prove their worth.

Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Murali Vijay, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, S Badrinath, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina.
