ICC pitch consultant inspects Kotla wicket

February 14, 2010 19:41 IST

ICC's chief pitch consultant Andy Atkinson on Sunday inspected the Feroze Shah Kotla pitch, which was banned for one year from hosting international matches after the abandoned India-Sri Lanka game in Delhi last year.

Atkinson visited Kotla inspected the pitch besides holding discussions with Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials and the local curator.

He also took some photographs of the pitch during his inspection.

Atkinson's visit is part of a process to make the Kotla pitch of international standard ahead of next year's World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Kotla is scheduled to host four World Cup matches during the February 19-March 30 mega-event.

Last month, the ICC had slapped a one-year ban on the Kotla, barring it from hosting any international matches till December.

The BCCI had appealed against the ban but the ICC rejected the plea, saying the suspension was proportionate in the case.
