# South Africa enjoy a 100 per cent record in tosses at Eden Gardens, having won all the three - in 1996-97, 2004-05 and 2009-10.

# Alviro Petersen (100 off 164 balls) is the third player to post a century on debut for South Africa, joining Andrew Hudson (163 against West Indies at Bridgetown in April 1992) and Jacques Rudolph (222 not out against Bangladesh at Chittagong in April 2003).

# Petersen's outstanding innings is the best on debut by any batsman for South Africa against India, surpassing Zander de Bruyn's 83 in the 2004-05 Kanpur Test.

# South Africa were comfortably placed at 251 for 3 but lost six wickets while making just 10 runs (251 for 3 to 261 for 9) - the said instance is their second worst collapse against India, both instances happening in India. In the Ahmedabad Test in 1996-97, they lost six wickets for only nine runs in the second innings - from 96 for four to 105 all out.

# Hashim Amla has registered two consecutive centuries for the second time in Tests - 253 not out in the first Test at Nagpur and 114 at Kolkata. In the 2007-08 series against New Zealand, Amla had made 176 not out at Johannesburg and 103 at Centurion.

# Amla's run tally of 367 (avg 367.00) in the series, including two hundreds, is a South African record against India, apart from his best ever in a series, beating Neil McKenzie's run-aggregate of 341 (avg.85.25), including one century and one fifty in the three-Test series in 2007-08.

# Amla, with successive hundreds against India, has taken his tally against India to three and nine in Tests.

# Amla and Petersen were involved in a stand of 209 for the second wicket - South Africa's second highest at this venue, the highest being the 212 between Daryll Cullinan and Gary Kirsten in 1996-97.

# After making 367 in the series, Amla was dismissed for the first time - a record by any batsman against India, eclipsing Pakistan's Javed Miandad's feat of 365 in two innings - an unbeaten 280 at Hyderabad (Niaz) and 85 at Lahore before being got out in January 1983.
