CLT20 preliminary squads announced

July 21, 2010 14:01 IST

Indian Premier League's costliest buy Kieron Pollard is among the six players who will have two or more teams jostling to have them on board for the Champions League Twenty20, the preliminary squads for which were announced in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Bought for $2.2 million by Mumbai Indians, Pollard is also eligible to play for South Australian Redbacks.

Others who have qualified for more than one team are Jacques Kallis (home team Warriors and Royal Challengers Bangalore), Mark Boucher (Warriors and Royal Challengers Bangalore), Ross Taylor (home team Central Stags, Victorian Bushrangers and Royal Challengers Bangalore), Dwayne Bravo (Victorian Bushrangers and Mumbai Indians) and Cameron White (home team Victorian Bushrangers, Royal Challengers Bangalore).

Meanwhile, England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is one step closer to a return to top-flight cricket after being named in the Chennai Super Kings' preliminary squad.

The 32-year-old, who has not played first-class cricket since the Ashes series in England last year, has been named in a 20-player CSK squad for the second edition of the 10-team tournament which will be played in South Africa from September 10 to 26.

With eight of the nine confirmed teams for the tournament having named their preliminary squads - with the exception of Wayamba - just three weeks remain before the final squads of 15 are selected on August 9.

"As was the case last year, if a player is selected to play for an 'away' team rather than his 'home' team, the 'away' team must pay $200,000 compensation to the 'home' team," CLT20 said in a statement.

Other international stars to be named in the preliminary squads, include Sachin Tendulkar (Mumbai Indians), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings), Mahela Jayawardene (Wayamba Elevens), Dale Steyn (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Rahul Dravid (RCB), JP Duminy (MI), Matthew Hayden (CSK), Muttiah Muralidaran (CSK), Harbhajan Singh (MI) and Mike Hussey (CSK).

The 10th and final team to compete at this year's Champions League will be decided when the West Indies' domestic Twenty20 tournament finishes on July 31.
