India's [ Images ] injury woes were compounded on Sunday after opener Gautam Gambhir [ Images ] was rendered a doubtful starter for the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka [ Images ] due to a knee problem.
India need to win the crucial match, beginning on Monday, to square the series.
The left-hander, who has been struggling of late, was a flop in the first Test at Galle where he got out in the very first over of both the innings.
India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni [ Images ] said he is not sure of Gambhir's availability for the match.
"As far as injuries goes Gautam is having a problem with either the left or right knee. I am not 100 per cent sure which knee. So we will take a call may be in the evening or tomorrow morning before the game," Dhoni said.
India are already missing fast bowlers Zaheer Khan [ Images ] and S Sreeanth due to injuries.
Sri Lanka's fast bowler Lasith Malinga [ Images ] has also been ruled out of the match due to a knee problem.
India lost the first match by a huge 10-wicket margin.
