Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan exchange words after almost colliding for a catch that saw Yusuf Pathan being dropped on seven.
Yusuf announced his arrival by smashing Shalabh Srivastava to the square-leg fence for a boundary.
Two balls later, in what was probably a display of fraternal feelings, Irfan dropped an opportunity offered by elder brother Yusuf at long-off in the ninth over.
However, Yusuf didn't make most of the lifeline.
The right-hander made 28 from 19 balls before he hit one straight to Yuvraj at long-on as he was once again foxed by the slower delivery from Srivastava.
Adam Voges gave the innings much-needed momentum in the final overs.
The Australian smashed a quickfire 45 from 24 balls, hitting five boundaries and a six, adding 60 runs in 36 deliveries for the fourth wicket with Faiz Fazal, who made 45 from 38 balls.
Rajasthan finished on a healthy 183 for five in 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals pacer Shaun Tait and Abishek Jhunjhunwala celebrate the wicket of Kumar Sangakkara.
Chasing a formidable target, Kings XI Punjab got off to superb start.
Captain Kumar Sangakkara made 29 off just 13 balls to ensure his side was not bogged down by the opposition's big total early on.
However, Shaun Tait got the first breakthrough when he had the Punjab captain caught by Faiz Fazal at third man.
Rajasthan captain Shane Warne and Yusuf Pathan celebrate the wicket of Manvinder Bisla.
Bisla threatened to take the game away from Rajasthan as he smashed a quick 35 from 18 balls, having hit four boundaries and two sixes.
However, Bisla was outsmarted by Warne when he slog swept straight to Lumb on the midwicket boundary in the eighth over.
Michael Lumb drops Yuvraj Singh's catch on the square leg boundary off Siddharth Trivedi.
However, Yuvraj could not make most of the opportunities he got, as he fell after just two deliveries for 15; this time he lofted one straight to mid-on where Fazal held on.
Yusuf Pathan celebrates after taking the wicket of Mohammad Kaif.
Kaif was lucky to survive off the first delivery when umpire Shavir Tarapore turned a close leg before wicket appeal against Adam Voges.
But Kaif perished in the very next over, when he was trapped leg before wicket by Pathan after scoring just eight to continue his bad run in the tournament.
Kings XI lost their last eight wickets for 45 runs and were bowled out for 152 in 19.1 overs. They lost the match by 31 runs.
