Lasith Malinga: Fast and furious

March 30, 2010 23:59 IST

Lasith Malinga was by far the best bowler for the Mumbai Indians and his efforts earned him the man-of-the-match award.

Lasith MalingaHis impressive figures of four for 22, including three in four balls - when he missed a hat-trick by a whisker, helped Mumbai dismiss Kings XI Punjab for a modest 163 in their Indian Premier League match at the Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday.

The Sri Lankan pacer swung the ball at good speed and never allowed the Punjab batsmen to settle down.

Zaheer Khan gave good support with impressive figures of three for 34.

Malinga began his onslaught dismissing Manvinder Bisla (11).

He came back to dismiss Irfan Pathan (18) and top-scorer Shaun Marsh (57) off the fifth and last balls of his third over to be on a hat-trick.

Karan Goel (1) prevented the Lanka bowler from achieving the feat but was bowled off the second ball in Malinga's fourth and final over that left the visiting team tottering at 133 for eight in the 18th over.

His exploits helped Malinga move up to second spot in the leading wicket-takers of the tournament behind countryman Muttiah Muralitharan of the Chennai Super Kings.
