Australia maintain unbeaten run in Women's T20 WC

Stafanie Taylor's unconquered half-century went in vain as Australia maintained their unbeaten record and defeated the West Indies by nine runs in an inconsequential Group A match of the Women's World Twenty20 at Basseterre, St Kitts.

Although there was little at stake in the match as both the sides have already made it to the last four stage, the win at Warner Park gave Australia the top spot in Group A while fellow semi-finalists West Indies finished second.

Sent into bat, Australia posted a solid 133 for seven in with seven of their eight batsmen reaching double figures.

Captain Alex Blackwell was the top-scorer with 28 from 26 balls, while Lisa Sthalekar provided the late fire with an unbeaten 21-ball 23.

Shanel Daley and Anisa Mohammed starred with the ball for the home team, scalping three wickets apiece for 31 and 17 runs respectively.

Chasing the competitive target, West Indies suffered an early setback losing two wickets within three balls to find themselves in a spot of bother at 16 for two before Taylor led revived the innings with an unbeaten 58 that came off just 54 balls.

Taylor added 46 for the third wicket with Britney Cooper (27) to bring West Indies innings back on track.

But the disciplined Australian bowlers held their nerve in the middle overs with Ellyse Perry claiming two wickets for 19 to put brakes on the West Indies scoring.

Perry's one of the two victims was Deandra Dottin, who made her second first-ball duck in consecutive matches after having made a remarkable start to the tournament with a 38-ball century.
