sanath jayasuriyaVeteran Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya has been signed up by English county side Worcestershire to be part of their forthcoming domestic Twenty20 venture.

According to a statement on the club's website, Worcestershire has signed up Jayasuriya for part of its forthcoming Friends Provident T20 campaign.

Jayasuriya will replace Steve Smith after five matches of Worcestershire's outing following the young Australian all-rounder's selection in the national squad.

The 40-year-old Jayasuriya has played 110 Tests, 444 ODIs and 30 international T20 matches for Sri Lanka during his remarkable career.

"Sanath will bring a wealth of experience to the squad during a critical part of the forthcoming FP T20 campaign gained from playing all around the world, including the IPL and the recent World Twenty20 in the West Indies," said Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes.

"His left-arm spin and powerful batting can only benefit our efforts in this competition and there is no doubt he is still one of the most exciting cricketers in world cricket. He is a proven match-winner and I have no doubt he will prove to be a great entertainer for our supporters," he added.

Jayasuriya's availability was, however, subject to clearance from the Sri Lankan cricket board (SLC) and appropriate visa clearance, the county said.
