Nottingham Cricket Club to fund Indian school

England's Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is hoping to raise sufficient funds to sustain an Indian school for a year when they host a dinner at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

Sam Kelsall, Michael Robson, George Bacon and Tom Rowe are amongst the players entrusted the job of organising the event following a trip to India in January.

"We visited a school and it made us realise how fortunate we are to have the facilities and opportunities that exist for us in Britain," said Kelsall.

"We stayed in a hotel that was very comfortable, but we had to travel through the slums to get there and it gave us all a clear understanding of the challenges that children in India face."

Previous projects have already raised 3000 pounds for the cause and it is hoped that local businesses will support the event to help achieve the fund-raising target of 5000.

"The money goes a long way and 5000 will allow Akanksha to run a school in a deprived area for a year," said Robson.

"Knowing that the children that we visited are able to have an education would mean a lot to all of us and that is why we have organised this event."

Former Yorkshire all-rounder Mike Cowan will speak at the event which includes a three-course meal at the Derek Randall suite. Tickets for the same are priced at 25 pounds.
