VVS Laxman scored a splendid 73 not out as India clinched a nail-biting win over Australia in the first Test at Mohali on Tuesday.
Chasing 216 to win, the home team got to the target with a wicket to spare.
Laxman, despite struggling with a back injury, proved yet again why his second innings average is close to 50. It was his 46th Test fifty and his 11th against Australia.
The Hyderabad batsman has also scored six centuries against the team from Down Under, as also his Test best -- that famous 281 at Kolkata in 2001.
He and Ishant Sharma (31) put on a vital 81-run partnership for the ninth wicket to help India clinch victory.
