Easy win for India Green in Challenger Trophy

October 09, 2010 22:24 IST

India Green comfortably beat India Red by six wickets in an NKP Salve Challenger Trophy match in Indore on Saturday.

The India Green bowlers, led by leg-spinner Sarabjit Ladda (4/46), dismissed the Dinesh Karthik-led Red team for a paltry 185 in 40.3 overs.

Apart from Ladda, Rajasthan medium pacer Pankaj Singh got three wickets. Mumbai pacer Dhawal Kulkarni chipped in with two for 26.

In reply, India Green reached the target in only 37 overs courtesy an 87-run third wicket stand between skipper Subramanium Badrinath (67) and Rohit Sharma (48).

India Green got five points including a bonus while the defeat cost the Red team a point. Tomorrow, the Green team will meet India Blue and the match will decide which two teams will go on to play the final on Monday.

None of the Red batsmen save for Parthiv Patel, who top scored with 86, showed patience to stick around and play their strokes. Parthiv hit 10 boundaries in his 100-ball innings.

Manish Pandey (6), Virat Kohli (7), Saurabh Tiwary (1) were all dismissed cheaply. While Manish was caught plumb in-front by Kulkarni, Kohli fished at an away going delivery from Pankaj while Rohit Sharma took a smart catch at point off Ladda's bowling to dismiss Tiwary.

Friday's hero Yusuf Pathan (3) also didn't bat long enough and holed out to Abhimanyu Mithun.

With not a big enough target to chase, the Green team was never under any kind of pressure although Naman Ojha was out in the fifth over caught by Kohli off Vinay Kumar.

Srikkanth Aniruddha struck a couple of boundaries to score 22 before being adjudged leg before. However, Badrinath and Rohit played sensibly to ensure an easy victory.
