Modi wants proceedings halted pending HC order

Suspended Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India to halt its disciplinary committee proceedings against him till the Bombay high court pronounces the order on his petition against a couple of the committee members in the panel on Wednesday.

Modi had asked for recusal of two of the panel members -- Arun Jaitley and Chirayu Amin -- claiming they were biased against him. The court, on Tuesday, reserved the judgment on the petition till Wednesday.

Modi's lawyer, Mehmood Abdi, said, "The arguments concluded today. Keeping in view the urgency of the matter the court has reserved the judgment to be pronounced tomorrow at 11 am.

"In view of this development we are requesting BCCI to defer the disciplinary committee proceedings at least till the judgment is pronounced tomorrow, because if we succeed the entire proceedings of the disciplinary committee shall be stayed," Abdi said.

Earlier, the hearing of the three-member disciplinary panel, probing charges of financial irregularities against Modi, was suspended till Tuesday evening due to indisposition of the third committee member, Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The meeting was scheduled for 1000 hours at Delhi but with Scindia down with fever, it had to be postponed for the evening.
