A round-up of the second day's action of the Ranji Trophy Elite League matches from across the country.  

Jaffer, Shah take Mumbai to 414-9

Wasim Jaffer and Hiken Shah hit twin half-centuries to help Mumbai reach 414 for nine at stumps against Uttar Pradesh on the second day of their Group A match in Lucknow.

Wasim JafferJaffer scored 55 in 104 balls with the help of five fours, while Shah came up with a 114-ball 56 studded with six  boundaries to take Mumbai close to the 400-mark at Dr Akhilesh Das Stadium.

Murtaza Hussain (11) and Aavishkar Salvi (2) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.

Punjab in control against Karnataka

Riding on Mayank Sidhana's 92-run knock, Punjab posted 357 all out in their first innings before reducing Karnataka to 183 for five to take an upper hand in their Group A match at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

Karnataka now require another 177 runs to avoid conceding the first innings lead with Stuart Binny batting on 69 and C M Gautam on 40.

Replying to visitors' first innings total of 357, Karnataka lost in-form opener Robin Uthappa (0) to the first ball of the innings. Earlier, Punjab, resuming at an overnight total of 278 for four, failed to consolidate the start provided by their top-order batsmen.

TN feast on Gujarat as Mukund slams double ton 

Abhinav Mukund slammed a double hundred while Dinesh Karthik and K Vasudevadas scored a century each as Tamil Nadu piled up a mammoth 693 for eight in their match against Gujarat in Ahmedabad.

Resuming on their overnight score of 288 for two, Tamil Nadu dominated the show all day as Mukund notched up a monumental 220 off 349 balls, an effort that came in 430 minutes and included 34 boundaries and two sixes.

Steady reply by Orissa after Rawat hits ton

Wicket-keeper batsman Mahesh Rawat scored second century of the season as Railways scored a respectable 379 in their first innings against minnows Orissa in a Group A match at the Karnail Singh Stadium in New Delhi.

In reply, Orissa openers Subhrajit Sahoo (60 batting, 95 balls, 9x4) and Paresh Patel (41 batting, 105 balls, 5x4, 1x6) batted steadily to end the day at 108 for no loss. The ball is still keeping low and there is some turn on offer which makes home team favourites to get atleast three points.

Bhatia steers Delhi to 392 against Bengal

After Rajat Bhatia slammed an unbeaten 163 to help Delhi post 392 in their first innings in Kolkata. Bengal struggled to reach 84 for four at the end of day two of their Group B match.

The Kolkata Knight Riders' all-rounder in IPL, Bhatia spent about seven hours at the crease hitting 22 fours and a six during his unbeaten 163 from 304 balls and in the process shared a match-turning 132 runs ninth-wicket partnership with rookie number 10 batsman Manoj Chauhan (28).

Sudhindra's four-wicket haul puts MP on top against Haryana

TP Sudhindra's four-wicket haul spelt disaster for Haryana as they were struggling at 22 for five in reply to Madhya Pradesh's first innings total of 487 in their Group B match in Rohtak.

After Naman Ojha (160) and Devendra Bundela (112) helped MP post a solid total, Sudhindra wreaked havoc to push the hosts on the back foot. 

With Haryana's top order back into the pavillion, they now face an uphill task of avoiding the follow-on, for which they require another 315 runs. 

At stumps on day two, Sachin Rana batting on four and Harshal Patel yet to open his account were at the crease. 

Earlier, resuming at an overnight total of 278 for three, MP lost Udit Birla (36) early after he could only add seven more runs to his previous day's score.

MP 1st innings: 487 all out in 163.3 overs (Naman Ojha 160, Devendra Bundela 112; Ashish Hooda 4-11).
Haryana 1st innings: 22 for five in 13 overs (Nitin Saini 13; TP Sudhindra 4-11).
