Chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Tuesday refused to discuss the omission of pace bowler S Sreesanth from India's squad for the cricket World Cup, to be held in the subcontinent from February 19 to April 2, saying he needs the permission of the Board of Control for Cricket in India to do so.
"The [selection] process is over. I have to take permission from BCCI if I want to make any comment on the selection," Srikkanth told reporters after inaugurating work on a new cricket stadium at Thumba, near Thiruvananthapuram.
The former India captain, however, lauded the Kerala pacer's showing in Test matches.
"Let Kerala produce more bowlers like him," he added.
After being left out of the 15-man squad, Sreesanth had tweeted, "I am so heart broken...but it is lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges and I believe in myself. Wishing the team all the very best. I am sure we will win [the World Cup] this one...(I) will surely miss it."
Srikkanth urged the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) to build more cricket infrastructure in the state, saying players from the state can benefit.
The stadium at Thumba is being developed at a cost of Rs four crore by the KCA in association with St Xavier's College at Thumba. There will be a full-fledged ground with turf wickets, dressing room, indoor nets and other facilities for staging first-class matches.
