Mahendra Singh has an enviable record as India's captain in the limited-overs format, but his record in Tests is getting worse by the day.

While he won World Cups in the ODI and Twenty20 formats, he suffered the humiliation of 4-0 series whitewashes in England and Australia last year. His captaincy in the longer format has come under further scrutiny in the ongoing Test series against England after India lost two Tests in a row and trail 1-2, with one Test left, in the ongoing series.

Sourav Ganguly says India should have different skippers for Tests and limited-overs matches in order to ease the workload of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who captains the team in all three formats of the game as well as keeps wickets.

M S DhoniThe former India captain, expressing his views following India's seven-wicket defeat to England in the third Test at the Eden Gardens on Sunday, said the selectors need to follow the practice of most countries in order to get the best of Dhoni.

- Team India is now playing for pride

'Every team in the world has gone with split captaincy. I am not saying the selectors should sack Dhoni, and say, 'You're out'. I have always said there is too much burden on him. I think we are losing MS Dhoni as a player,' Ganguly toldĀ Headlines Today, after the defeat, which put England in sight of their first series win on Indian soil since David Gower's side triumphed in 1984-85.

'Captaincy and your ability as a player," Ganguly added "are interlinked; I think Dhoni is a much better one-day captain than he is a Test captain.'

In the ongoing Test series, Dhoni aggregates only 92 runs from five innings. His highest knock is 52, in the first innings in of the Kolkata Test.

Will relieving Dhoni of the leadership in Tests augur well for himself and Team India?

Should he captain only in limited-overs' cricket?
